Venkatesh Prasad Becomes KSCA President in Landmark Election

Venkatesh Prasad has been elected as the new president of the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA), marking a significant leadership change in the state’s cricket administration. Alongside Prasad, former India batter Sujith Somasundar was elected vice-president after defeating D. Vinod Shivappa 719-588 in the elections held at M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday. This leadership transition brings a new era for KSCA with experienced administrators taking key roles.

KSCA Election Results – Key Winners

The recent KSCA elections resulted in a sweeping victory for the Prasad-led panel, which received open support from cricketing legends Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath. The major office-bearers elected are:

  • President: Venkatesh Prasad
  • Vice-President: Sujith Somasundar
  • Treasurer: BN Madhukar (736-571)
  • Secretary: Santosh Menon (675-632)
  • Joint Secretary: BK Ravi (669-638)

Former KSCA secretary ES Jairam had resigned after a tragic stampede near M Chinnaswamy Stadium, taking moral responsibility for the incident. His departure opened the way for Menon’s return as secretary.

Sujith Somasundar Takes Vice-President Role

Sujith Somasundar stepped down from his role as Education Head at the BCCI Centre of Excellence to contest the KSCA vice-presidential election. His win, with 719 votes against D. Vinod Shivappa’s 588, demonstrates strong backing within the cricket fraternity. Somasundar’s leadership is expected to focus on youth development and strengthening Karnataka’s cricketing structure.

Treasurer and Secretary Positions Secured

BN Madhukar won the treasurer post with a margin of 165 votes, securing 736 against MS Vinay’s 571. Meanwhile, Santosh Menon returned as KSCA secretary after receiving 675 votes over ES Jairam’s 632. Their election ensures that the key administrative positions in the KSCA are now held by experienced figures capable of driving organizational stability.

Panel’s Stronghold Across KSCA Zones

This section highlights the success of Venkatesh Prasad’s panel not just in the top leadership positions, but also across the regional or zone-level elections within Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA). Specifically:

  • Bangalore Zone elections: Key victories were secured by notable former cricketers:
    • Kalpana Venkatachar (ex-women cricketer) won with 764 votes.
    • Avinash Vaidya (former Karnataka wicketkeeper) won with 691 votes.
    • Aashish Amarlall won with 703 votes.

These wins indicate that the new leadership has broad support across multiple KSCA zones, not just at the top level. By securing these positions, the Prasad panel strengthens its ability to implement policies and decisions uniformly throughout Karnataka’s cricket administration. Essentially, it ensures that the influence of the new leadership is statewide and well-coordinated.

Prasad Panel Gains Support of Cricket Legends

This part emphasizes that the panel’s credibility was reinforced by endorsements from cricket legends like Anil Kumble and Javagal Srinath. Their support served two main purposes:

  1. Credibility and Trust: Voters in the KSCA elections were more confident in backing the Prasad panel because respected former players vouched for them.
  2. Strategic Advantage: The endorsement likely helped the panel secure votes and influence within the cricket community, signaling that the leadership team is serious about improving cricket administration.

With this backing and experienced individuals in leadership positions, KSCA now has the potential to focus on:

  • Overall growth of the sport in Karnataka
  • Infrastructure development (stadiums, training facilities)
  • Grassroots cricket programs (talent development from local levels)

Strengthening Grassroots and Infrastructure

Under Venkatesh Prasad’s leadership, KSCA is expected to place significant emphasis on grassroots cricket and talent development. Initiatives such as district-level coaching camps, talent scouting programs, and enhanced training facilities for young cricketers are likely to receive more attention and resources. By nurturing players from an early age and providing them with structured guidance, the new administration aims to create a sustainable pipeline of talent capable of competing at the domestic and international levels. This focus on grassroots development could also help Karnataka maintain its reputation as one of India’s premier cricketing states.

Embracing Modernization and Digital Governance

Another key area for the Prasad-led KSCA is modernization and digital transformation of cricket administration. From streamlining ticketing systems and membership management to introducing data-driven performance tracking for players, technology is expected to play a central role in improving efficiency and transparency. Additionally, adopting digital tools for fan engagement, live updates, and safety monitoring at stadiums can enhance the overall spectator experience while ensuring adherence to safety protocols. This blend of traditional cricketing wisdom and modern administrative practices positions KSCA for a more progressive and resilient future.
