At the Commonwealth Games 2022, Salima Tete played a decisive role in India’s bronze medal victory. She scored an important goal in the third place match against New Zealand, helping India achieve its first official win over the Kiwis in a penalty shootout to secure the medal.

Later that same year, she was part of the Indian team that captured the FIH Hockey Women’s Nations Cup title in Spain.

Salima Tete continued her impressive form in 2023 by playing a major role in India’s bronze medal winning campaign at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Her dynamic midfield play helped India maintain strong performances throughout the tournament.

Later that year, she delivered one of the best individual tournaments of her career during the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Ranchi 2023. Salima scored five goals in seven matches and was named Player of the Tournament for her exceptional performances.

Beyond her on field achievements, Salima Tete was also appointed as an Asian Hockey Federation Athletes Ambassador in March 2023. The role highlighted her growing influence within international hockey and her commitment to representing athletes.

Leadership Role With Indian Women’s Hockey Team

In recognition of her leadership qualities and consistent performances, Salima Tete was appointed captain of the Indian women’s hockey team in 2024. The responsibility marked another important step in her rapidly evolving career.

Under her leadership, India achieved notable success in regional competitions. The team captured the gold medal at the Bihar Women’s Asian Champions Trophy Rajgir 2024 and followed it with a silver medal at the Women’s Asia Cup Gongshu 2025.

Salima’s leadership style emphasises energy, teamwork, and discipline. Her presence in midfield continues to influence both the attacking and defensive aspects of India’s playing strategy.

Recognition and Awards Highlight Her Impact

Salima Tete’s growing reputation has also been recognised through several major awards. In 2021, she received the Hockey India Asunta Lakra Award for Upcoming Player of the Year in the Women Under 21 category.

Her continued excellence earned further recognition in 2023 when she was honoured with the Hockey India Balbir Singh Senior Award for Player of the Year. The award confirmed her status as one of the leading figures in Indian hockey.

In 2024, Salima Tete achieved another major milestone when she was presented with the prestigious Arjuna Award, one of India’s highest sporting honours.
