Akash Kumar Choudhary Record Eight Sixes in a Row

Akash Kumar Choudhary record eight sixes — the Indian cricketer has smashed his way into history during a Ranji Trophy match, becoming the first player ever to hit eight consecutive sixes in first-class cricket. The 25-year-old from Meghalaya also notched the fastest fifty in first-class history, reaching the mark in just 11 balls.

Historic Feat in Ranji Trophy Clash

On day two of the Ranji Trophy Plate Group match between Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh in Surat, Akash came in to bat at No. 8 with Meghalaya cruising at 576-6. What followed stunned spectators — after a slow start of a dot ball and two singles, he launched into spinner Limar Dabi, sending six straight deliveries over the ropes.

That over placed him in elite company, joining Sir Garfield Sobers (1968) and Ravi Shastri (1985) as the only players to hit six sixes in an over in first-class cricket. But Akash went even further, adding two more sixes off the first two balls of the next over from off-spinner TNR Mohith, creating a world record with eight consecutive sixes.

Fastest Fifty in First-Class History

Those eight sixes powered him to a fifty from just 11 balls, breaking the previous mark of 12 deliveries set by Wayne White for Leicestershire in 2012. Akash finished unbeaten on 50 (14 balls) as Meghalaya declared at 629-8, with his strike rate an astonishing 357.

“I just kept my shape and swung through the line,” Akash said after the game. “I didn’t know it was a record until my teammates told me.”

Dominant All-Round Performance

Akash’s brilliance wasn’t limited to batting. With the ball, he took 1-10 as Arunachal Pradesh were bowled out for 73 in their first innings. Following on, he struck again with 2-7, reducing Arunachal to 29-3 at stumps — still 526 runs behind.

Joining Legends and Inspiring a Generation

Cricket historians immediately drew comparisons with iconic moments by Sobers and Shastri. Yet Akash’s feat — eight consecutive sixes and the fastest first-class fifty ever recorded — ensures his name stands alone in cricket’s record books.

The right-hander’s power-hitting has brought fresh attention to Meghalaya cricket, often overlooked in India’s domestic structure. Former players have hailed his achievement as “inspirational for every small-state cricketer dreaming big.”

As Meghalaya close in on victory, Akash Kumar Choudhary’s remarkable performance will be remembered as a defining moment — a record that redefines what’s possible in Indian domestic cricket.
