Rajasthan Royals Sanju Samson trade — The Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reportedly changed their stance in the much-discussed IPL 2026 trade deal involving Sanju Samson and Ravindra Jadeja, now demanding a different player from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) instead of Sam Curran.
RR Alter Demands in Trade Deal With CSK
According to The Indian Express, RR initially proposed trading captain Sanju Samson in exchange for CSK’s Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran. However, sources now suggest that while Jadeja’s inclusion remains confirmed, CSK are reluctant to release Curran, pushing instead to retain him and protect their Sri Lankan fast-bowling star Matheesha Pathirana.
RR reportedly expressed strong interest in acquiring Pathirana as part of the package along with Jadeja. CSK, however, are unwilling to part with the young pacer, who has emerged as a key death-bowling weapon and future prospect for the franchise.
CSK Internal Discussions Before Agreeing on Jadeja’s Inclusion
The report added that MS Dhoni, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and head coach Stephen Fleming held lengthy discussions before Jadeja’s name was confirmed in the deal. CSK only agreed to include him after receiving the player’s consent, as the all-rounder remains one of the team’s most valuable veterans.
Jadeja, a former RR player in the inaugural IPL seasons, has been with CSK since 2012 and has won multiple titles, including playing a match-winning role in the 2023 IPL final against Gujarat Titans.
Sanju Samson’s Future and Trade Procedure
Sanju Samson, who has spent 11 years with Rajasthan Royals, reportedly requested a release from the franchise following the end of IPL 2025, expressing a desire for a new challenge.
For any such trade to proceed, both franchises must submit an expression of interest to the IPL Governing Council, followed by written player consent and formal ratification by the BCCI’s trade committee.
Possible Scenarios and Impact
Should the trade go through, it would mark one of the biggest IPL player swaps in history, potentially reuniting Jadeja with his first IPL team while giving CSK an elite Indian wicketkeeper-batter in Samson.
However, with Pathirana off the table and Curran’s future uncertain, negotiations appear ongoing. The outcome could reshape the IPL 2026 season, altering the balance of power between two of the league’s most successful franchises.
